LULAC scholarship banquetThe University of Central Arkansas recently announced the recipients of LULAC/UCA 2023-24 scholarships. Nine students were awarded a $4,750 scholarship by the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), recognizing their dedication to education and community involvement.

Student scholarship winners were announced at a recent celebration in the atrium of the Windgate Center for Fine and Performing Arts. Representatives from LULAC and the Mexican Consulate joined the students, their families and UCA leaders.

“This is the second year we have celebrated our UCA LULAC Scholars on campus, and I had the privilege to work firsthand with them. The support LULAC has given our UCA students is outstanding. We are looking forward to celebrating more UCA LULAC Scholars in the future,” said Maria Negrete Padron, associate director in the Division of Student Affairs.

LULAC is the nation’s oldest and largest Latino civil rights organization and has a long-standing tradition of promoting education within the Hispanic community. These scholarships represent a significant contribution towards the higher education goals of the following nine UCA students:

  • Gabriela Campanur
  • Hannia Figueroa Herrera
  • Alexandra Flores-Hernandez
  • Carol Gomez-Rios
  • Andrea Gutierrez
