The University of Central Arkansas’ acclaimed Wind Ensemble is performing its send off concert Sunday, February 25th at 3:00pm in the Windgate Center.
The concert features Pulitzer Prize winning composer Michael Colgrass’ landmark work Urban Requiem and its depiction of life in a modern cityscape with diverse populations. The work is a tour de force featuring UCA faculty Dr. Matthew Taylor on baritone saxophone, and Professor Brandon Dorris on tenor saxophone, along with guest artists Dr. Benjamin Morris on soprano saxophone, and Dr. Sarah Hetrick on alto saxophone.
Also featured on the concert is 7 time Grammay Award winning composer Michael Daugherty’s newest work for wind band Passacaglia in Primary Colors. This sparkling and effervescent work draws inspiration from American artist Andy Warhol whose use of repetition blended with spectacular and vivid colorings lead the way of American art in the 20th century.
Also featured on the concert are works by Arkansas’ own Florence Price, the new and exciting music of Jessica Meyer, and a brilliant transcription of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-George’s Overture to “L’Amant Anonyme” by Dr. Derek Stoughton.
