Please join us for the 7th annual Spring Tuba and Euphonium Fling featuring SymbiosisDuo at the Windgate Center for Performing Arts on Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30pm. This performance is part of the UCA University Research Council grant: “Recording of New Chamber Music Featuring Euphonium and Tuba Duo – Dreams, Dances, and Destinations.”
Dr. Gail Robertson and Dr. Stacy Baker formed SymbiosisDuo in 2007 promote and disseminate new works for this unique combination of instruments. Much of the growth and development of the tuba and euphonium duo as a recognized chamber ensemble and the expansion of its repertoire can be attributed to their efforts. SymbiosisDuo released grant-funded albums Symbiosis in (2009) and Playground (2015), and they look forward to the release of their third album Dances, Dreams, and Destinations (2024).
Dr. Stacy Baker is Professor of Music – Tuba/Euphonium, Morehead State University, 2016-2017 Distinguished Creative Productions Award recipient and 2014-2015 Distinguished Teacher. She is founding member of Monarch Brass, the Athena Brass Band, and the R.S.V.B. and JUNCTION tuba/euphonium quartets, and has served on the board of IWBC and ITEA.
T.O. Sterrett is a Conductor and Keyboardist whose work on Broadway includes Arranger/Orchestrator/Music Supervisor for Gutenberg! The Musical! (featuring Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells), Assoc. Conductor, keyboards and cast album for Shrek The Musical, Asst. Conductor and pianist for Wicked, and Pianist/Asst. Conductor at Cats. He has worked on many other Broadway shows, including The Book of Mormon, The Phantom of the Opera, Something Rotten, Matilda, Elf, and Mamma Mia. As a Composer, Orchestrator, and Music Producer, Mr. Sterrett has worked on several Emmy-nominated Film/TV projects, and his music has been heard on Saturday Night Live, Investigating History, and many other shows. He also is the Composer/Lyricist for critically acclaimed Animaloopidy, featuring Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons.
Dr. Gail Robertson is Associate Professor of Tuba/Euphonium, at UCA; Past President – IITEA and IWBC; Vice President – Athena Brass Band; Willson and Warburton International Euphonium Artist; Brass Band of Battle Creek; Monarch Brass; Blossom Festival Band; Athena Brass Band; BOD – Falcone Festival and Wind and Rhythm.
Dr. Kazuo Murakami is Lecturer II of Piano/Coordinator of Collaborative Piano, University of Central Arkansas. He studied at Kyoto City University of Arts in his native Japan, won the Sadie Zellen Piano Prize from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and earned a D.M.A. in Piano Performance/Pedagogy from the University of Iowa. Dr. Murakami has toured and performed with numerous artists and he travels often to serve as collaborate pianist at national and international Conferences including the 2024 IWBC in Mito City, JAPAN.
