Course materials should be ADA-compliant. Because many of the instructional materials used in courses are provided by publishers, it is recommended that you contact your publishers and request ADA-compliant course materials. This may include e-books, PowerPoint files, PDFs, test banks, audio/video files, images, workbooks, and other materials unique to your course and publisher.
Consider these additional questions for your publisher:
- Are the videos captioned and audio recordings transcribed?
- Can all of the displayed text on the screen be read aloud by text-to-speech software?
- How accessible are the e-books? Digital books should conform to EPUB standards.
- Can interactivity be completed by the keyboard alone? Some people are not able to use a mouse and rely on the use of the keyboard to navigate and interact online.
- Is there documentation that confirms accessibility or usability testing results?
- What type of accessibility support is available to students?
