The Department of Government, Public Service, and International Studies (GPI) is hosting an information session led by Shane Hough, the Diplomat in Resident at Tulane University, on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, during x-period (1:40pm to 2:30pm) in Irby Hall, Room #216. All UCA students interested in possible professional careers in the U.S. Department of State, including careers as diplomats serving in U.S. embassies and consulates oversees, are invited to attend the information session.
Mr. Hough is a career Foreign Service Officer (FSO) with 21 years of service with the U.S. Department of State. Mr. Hough most recently served as the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Director for U.S. Embassy Tegucigalpa, Honduras and as the Chief of Political and Economic Affairs at U.S. Embassy Asunción, Paraguay. Other assignments include with the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs expediting the issuance of Afghan Special Immigrant Visas, as the State Department’s Peru Desk Officer, as an Economics Officer at Embassy Guatemala City, and as a Consular Officer at Embassy San Salvador and U.S. Consulate General Guayaquil, Ecuador. He also served as a Refugee Assistance Officer with the Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, coordinating U.S. humanitarian relief for refugees in central and eastern Africa.
Mr. Hough is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University’s College of Engineering and worked as a research and design engineer before joining the Peace Corps where he served as a teacher in Tanzania. He also graduated from the American University’s School of International Service with a master’s degree in international development management.
