In this Phillip H. McMath award-winning essay collection, Fearnside reflects on his four years as an educator in Kazakhstan. By analyzing the culture and history of the country and its people, Fearnside explores themes such as religious bigotry and environmental degradation.

They are a southern writer who lifts up expectations and opens spaces for connection, unlearning, and change.
