The Arkansas foreign Language Teachers Association recently recognized Amanda Horton, UCA Public Appearances executive director, with the Friend of Foreign Language Award during their annual conference.
Wrote in her nomination, “Amanda’s dedication to cultural diversity and global involvement is shown in the strategic programming she curates each season, which includes performances in a variety of languages and cultural traditions from around the world. What sets Mrs. Horton’s contributions apart, is her continuous commitment to accessibility and educational impact. She has collaborated extensively with educators around the state to ensure that children, particularly those from rural and marginalized regions, can attend these culturally enriching activities. Her efforts not only raise students’ cultural and linguistic understanding, but they also empower foreign language educators by creating authentic, immersive experiences that increase student engagement.”
AFTLA was founded to promote and coordinate the general interest of the teaching of foreign languages and cultures, to provide professional development, and to serve as an information source for foreign language teachers in Arkansas.
