The Arkansas Coding Academy is thrilled to offer a FREE, 3-day virtual class on web development basics!

You can choose from two upcoming sessions:

Session 1: November 18, 19, & 20 – from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Session 2: December 9, 10, & 12 – from 6:00pm to 9:00pm

In this class, you will learn the fundamentals of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, guided by an industry professional. Our interactive virtual sessions are designed to build your confidence and skills.

Arkansas Coding Academy will host Demo Day for the Fall 2024 Fast-Track Graduates. After thirteen weeks of intensive training to become Web Developers, our students are ready to showcase their capstone projects.

Join us on Thursday, November 7th, at the Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center on the UCA Campus. Demonstrations will take place from 2 pm to 4 pm, and you are welcome to drop by any time.

Arkansas Coding Academy is a coding bootcamp program within the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at UCA. Since its inception in 2016, the program has been dedicated to training beginners to become proficient computer programmers. In addition to technical training, the program offers career development opportunities to prepare students for entry-level technical jobs.

Author and scholar Mecca Jamilah Sullivan joins us for a residency as part of UCA’s Artists in Residence program. She will have four events on campus: an interview with Creative Writing graduate students; a Master Class with graduate students; a public reading and book signing; and a craft talk with Creative Writing students. Writer/scholar Mecca Jamilah Sullivan is the author of three books: the novel Big Girl (2022), a New York Times Editors’ Choice and winner of the Next Generation Indie Book Award for First Novel and the Balcones Fiction Prize; the short story collection Blue Talk and Love (2015), winner of the Judith Markowitz Award from Lambda Literary; and her contribution to literary theory The Poetics of Difference: Queer Feminist Forms in the African Diaspora (2021), winner of the William Sanders Scarborough Prize from the Modern Language Association. Sullivan will be in-residence on November 6th and 7th, 2024.

Residencies are funded by the UCA Arts Fee with additional support from Engage Management and Pyramid Art, Books, and Custom Framing.

Ceramics and sculpture artist Jonathan Christensen Caballero, who joined us back in September, returns next week to complete his residency as part of UCA’s Artists in Residence program. He will give an Artist Talk on November 7, 2024 from 6-7pm in the Windgate Center for Fine and Performing Arts, room 167. Christensen Caballero’s mixed-media work focuses on the human figure and histories of Latin American laborers in the US.
