Walk a Mile in Her Shoes-APRIL 13, 2023
“You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.”
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes asks men to literally walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes. It’s not easy walking in the shoes, but it’s fun and it gets the community to talk about something that’s really difficult to talk about: gender relations and men’s sexual violence against women.
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is an event that started back in 2001 with a small group of men walking in high heels to stand up against sexual violence. Since then it has grown to tens of thousands of men across the country taking the pledge to Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, raising millions of dollars for local rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters and other sexualized violence education, prevention and remediation programs.
The event began here at UCA in 2012 through a collaboration between various campus departments and the Interfraternity Council. Since then the program has grown to be one of the key events organized by our fraternity men. The event occurs every spring semester to help raise awareness and funds for Rise Conway.
