Sustainable Development Goals
The fourth week of September is SDG week. We coordinate with The Center for Global Learning and Engagement to host events and promote sustainable actions in our community.
Jewel Moore Nature Reserve
Each fall we work with Professor Little to prepare the 18 acer reserve for burning. Prescribed fires are invaluable in maintaining this last section of the prairie that once covered Conway. Green Bears are encouraged to sign up for the burn crew where they will gain practical experience in land management.
For more information on the JMNR please visit their website.
Conway’s Arbor Day Celebration
Conway’s Arbor Day Celebration, hosted by the City of Conway Tree Board, is held in November. In 2025 GBC hosted a table at the 19th annual Arbor Day Celebration in Laurel Park and volunteered at the free tree giveaway.
Fall Fairs
You can come talk with one of our executives at the Fall Fest Volunteer Fair or the Bear Fair to learn more about our organization and ask us any questions!
Pumpkin Carving
We celebrate Halloween with sustainable pumpkin carving and learn about eating every part of the plant!
Seed planting in January
Volunteers plant seeds in January that start inside on our grow carts and are transplanted into the garden after the last freeze of the year. All of the food we grow is used in educational demonstrations, or donated to the Bear Essentials Food Pantry.
Seed to Security Project
Seed Saving Project in collaboration with Faulkner County Library Urban Farm Project’s Seed Bank
Sustainable Development Goals Action & Awareness Week
During the first week of March we bring awareness to the SDG by hosting events and promoting campus wide sustainability programs.
Spring Creek Cleanup
Our volunteers were able to pull over 250 lb of trash out of Stone Dam Creek in 2025. We were also able to see major improvements in the biodiversity of aquatic flora and fauna since the Physical Plant’s clean up project in 2024.
In 2024, volunteers removed over120 lb of trash from Stone Dame Creek.
The main things found are plastic bags and fast food garbage; however we have also pulled out a deer stand, a car bumper, clothes, vapes, and a large assortment of sporting equipment.
