UCA Undergraduates Present STEM Posters at the Arkansas State Capitol

More than 110 undergraduate students presented 70 posters highlighting their original STEM research at the Arkansas State Capitol.

UCA was the primary organizer of the event, with support and participation from the Arkansas STEM Coalition and Arkansas State University.

This was the fifth year for the Arkansas STEM Posters at the State Capitol.

Students from 15 Arkansas public and private universities and colleges were stationed with their posters, which include photographs and other representations of their data, to discuss their research with state lawmakers, high school students, media and the general public.

“This event promotes the good news that is undergraduate STEM education across the state,” said Patrick Desrochers, professor and chair of the UCA Department of Chemistry and principal organizer of this event. “Opportunities for undergraduates exist at schools across Arkansas for students to become immersed in cutting edge research on open-ended, challenging, and exciting problems. Solutions to these problems help Arkansans and people around the world.”

One of the goals of the event is to promote a greater understanding and appreciation of the level of complex research in natural sciences and mathematics conducted by students at Arkansas colleges and universities. Another goal is to increase enrollment and retention of students in STEM fields.

UCA History Professor Wins 2017 Award for Best Book On Arkansas History

UCA history professor Kenneth Barnes was awarded the 2017 Arkansas Historical Association award for the best book on Arkansas history.

The mission of the Arkansas Historical Association is to promote the preservation, writing, publishing, teaching and understanding of Arkansas state history through the publication of the Arkansas Historical Quarterly as well as other activities.

Free Traveling Exhibit Of The Arkansas State Archives Opens In Torreyson Library

The exhibit is open to the general public and located on the second floor of the Torreyson Library.

It is 12 panels wide and quite expansive.

UCA’s SGA Packs More Than 10,000 Meals For Bear Essentials Food Bank

The UCA Student Government Association and The Pack Shack teamed up during the Feed the Funnel Party to pack more than 10,000 meals to benefit the UCA Bear Essential Food Bank.

The Pack Shack Feed the Funnel Party consisted of everyone putting on hairnets, cranking up some awesome music and creating thousands of meals from dry ingredients in an assembly line process.

The assembly line included funnels (where ingredients are poured into a funnel to fill a bag), scales (where bags are weighed for accuracy), heat sealers (where bags are sealed), and boxes (where the bags are put into cases).
