RN to BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)

The RN to BSN track is for Registered Nurses (RNs) who are graduates of accredited associate degree or hospital diploma programs and seek a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. With three start dates each year, this program is designed for the working nurse completed fully online through full-time or part-time plans of study. Qualified RNs receive 41 hours of BSN nursing credit based on their prior educational program. This program is 100% online and can be completed in as little as 12 months. Part-time schedules are available for those students who do not want to complete the degree in 12 months.


Program Requirements BEFORE entry:

Admission is selective and competitive. Requirements for admission to the RN to BSN track are as follows:

  1. Current unencumbered Arkansas RN license.
  2. An associate degree or hospital diploma earned from a nationally accredited nursing program leading to RN licensure.
  3. Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  4. Completion of the following prerequisite courses with a minimum of a “C” or better:
    • Introduction to College Writing
    • Academic Writing & Research
    • Oral Communication (or additional Fine Arts/Humanities/Social Science course)
    • College Algebra
    • Statistics
    • General Psychology
    • Developmental Psychology
    • Human Anatomy & Physiology I* (4 credit hours with lab)
    • Human Anatomy & Physiology II* (4 credit hours with lab)
    • Microbiology (4 credit hours with lab)
    • General Chemistry (4 credit hours with lab)
    • 6 hours of Fine Arts and/or Humanities courses
    • 3 hours of US History or Government
  5. At least 1000 hours of nursing employment during the past 12 months if the associate degree or hospital diploma was earned from a nationally accredited program more than 12 months prior to admission. No work experience is required if the associate degree or hospital diploma was earned from a nationally accredited program in the past 12 months. Graduates of non-accredited programs are handled on an individual basis.

*These courses must be completed at the same institution for continuity of education.

Application Process

The following steps must be completed for admissions consideration:

  1. Apply to the UCA School of Nursing RN to BSN program.
  2. Submit unofficial transcripts of ALL previous college coursework via email to Julie Ingram at jjones111@uca.edu, or mail copies to: School of Nursing, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway, AR 72035. A review will be completed to ensure prerequisite requirements have been met.
  3. Apply to UCA and send in official transcripts.
