UCA students to participate in Habitat for Humanity blitz build

While many students may seek sand and surf or ski slopes during spring break, several University of Central Arkansas students will join in a student-funded, student-led blitz build of a Habitat for Humanity house in Conway.

UCA students, in cooperation with the Faulkner County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, are teaming up with students from Hendrix College to build a house for a less fortunate family in the community.

Students joined forces four years ago for the first UCA-Hendrix blitz build. Doug Corbitt, UCA Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build Faculty Coordinator, said, ?The first blitz build was a great success in terms of contributing materially to our town, encouraging cooperation and good will across the Conway college community and promoting volunteerism. We are excited about participating in this effort again.?

In addition to volunteering their labor during the entire break (March 14-18), UCA students also have committed to raising $5,000 to help pay for construction materials. Fundraising efforts are already underway.

Individuals interested in making a tax-deductible contribution to the project may send a check made out to ?UCA-Hendrix 2005 Blitz Build? to the Habitat for Humanity of Faulkner County, 1301 Museum Road, Conway, AR 72032.
