UCA HOSTS COMPOSER TICHELI WITH HENDRIX

Through a collaborative effort, the bands of the University of Central Arkansas and Hendrix University will bring Frank Ticheli to Conway as a composer-in-residence March 15.

Ticheli, a professor of Composition at the University of Southern California, will lead the UCA and Hendrix Wind Ensembles in a gala concert in Reynolds Performance Hall at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

“Mr.Ticheli’s music is very popular with band students, and his music has been performed around the world by bands from junior high schools to professional ensembles,” said Dr. Ricky Brooks, director of Bands at UCA. “Students will have the opportunity to meet and interact with a composer whose music they have performed many times.”

Ticheli is a composer of orchestral, choral, chamber and concert band music with works that have been published by Manhattan Beach Music, Encore Music Publishers and Hinshaw Music.

As part of the residency, Ticheli will also give a public seminar for area school band directors and students as well as Hendrix and UCA students and faculty at 1:40 p.m. in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.
