Platanos y Collard Greens comes to UCA

The University of Central Arkansas Student Government Association and the UCA Latino Student Association will present “Platanos Y Collard Greens” at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Ida Waldran Auditorium.

The off-Broadway theatrical troupe from New York will perform this live show. Admission is free and open to the public. Seats for this production are limited.

“Platanos Y Collard Greens” is a hilarious tale of love, family drama and politics dealing with the racial relationship between African-Americans and Latinos.

It tells the story of two college students, Freeman and Angelita. They are strangers from different cultures who fall in love at first sight. Angelita’s mom finds out, and the older woman’s bias comes out! The couple is forced to confront and overcome their own prejudices and stereotypes while defending their bond from family and friends.

“The plot is intended to spark a dialog about African-American and Latino relations in Arkansas; something that I feel is much needed,” said Manny Sepulveda, UCA’s Hispanic Initiatives Outreach coordinator.
