NATIONAL CAMPUS SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH

The University of Central Arkansas will observe National Campus Safety Awareness Month in September with weekly events designed to promote safety across the university campus. This is the fourth time the university has observed safety awareness month.

“UCA is a safe campus and it is important that we continue to raise awareness on relevant issues to keep it that way. National Campus Safety Awareness Month is a perfect opportunity as we start the new academic year to focus on safety and making good decisions,” said Arch Jones Jr., director of organizational and community services for the UCA Police Department.

UCA Police Department is partnering with the Student Government Association, the UCA Counseling Center, Student Wellness and Development, Student Life, Greek Life, Housing and Residence Life, UCA Athletics, and the entire UCA community to provide programing on issues including sexual assault, the dangers of alcohol and drugs, active shooter, and pedestrian safety.

“We have a full schedule of programming and events during the month of September to enhance the safety of our campus. It takes all of us working together to keep UCA a safe campus and I would like to encourage all of our students, faculty and staff to participate in as much of the programming and events as possible,” said UCA Police Chief Larry James. “Theft prevention, active shooter survival, hazing prevention, sexual assault awareness, the dangers of alcohol and drugs; these are issues that no one likes to talk or think about but through awareness we want the UCA community to be mindful, not fearful.”

A full list of activities is included.
