CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas will host the “End of Hi-BEAR-Nation” Debate Tournament beginning at 2 p.m. March 8.

The tournament, to be headquartered in McCastlain Hall, is free and open to the public and will continue through March 10.

Officials expect a wide range of college debate teams from Arkansas to compete in one-on-one and two-on-two debates.

This tournament is sanctioned by the International Public Debate Association, and competitors will debate a wide range of topics.

The tournament will include a number of preliminary rounds, followed by bracket-style elimination rounds for qualifying teams. Speaker trophies will be awarded to debaters who stand out on a team.

“The UCA tournament will bring to campus outstanding college debaters from across the region and their faculty coaches,” said Dr. Jim Hikins, chair of UCA’s Department of Communication. “It is one of the best ways to exhibit the academic mission of the University and to show our campus to coaches and debaters alike.”

He said UCA’s Debate Team was looking for additional participants.
