Conway Symphony Presents Children’s Concert

CONWAY, ARK. (February 25, 2013) –

With stories of beasts and fairies, pagodas and princesses, the Conway Symphony Orchestra will bring Enchanted Tales to life on Saturday, March 9, 2:00 p.m. at Reynolds Performance Hall on the UCA campus in Conway. This annual children’s concert is always a family favorite, for everyone from grandparents to grandchildren. Tickets are only $6 for all seats, all ages. Purchase tickets at the Reynolds box office, (501) 450-3265, toll free 866-810-0012 outside of Conway, or at ConwaySymphony.org. The concert is underwritten by First Security Bank with guest artist sponsorship from College Square and hospitality sponsorship from Aramark.

The orchestra will perform the musical tales of Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, including versions of Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, Tom Thumb, The Empress and the Pagoda, and The Fairy Garden. “Music and stories go hand-in-hand together,” notes CSO conductor and music director Izzy Getzov. “This fun concert is a great opportunity to share with your family the stories we all know and love from our childhood.” Izzy will also sneak in a little bit of learning for the kids in the audience, with his usual energetic and interactive style.

Chris Fritzges, a professor of theatre at UCA, will help tell the tales, with the assistance of several theatre students acting out the scenes on stage. The concert will also feature UCA Concerto winner Simona Donova on “Carmen Fantasy for Flute and Orchestra,” by Francois Borne.

The one-hour performance will be followed by children’s crafts organized by the Conway Symphony volunteer Guild, plus refreshments and a chance to ‘meet the instruments’ in the lobby. Audience members are also invited to bring non-perishable items for local foodbanks, as the CSO participates in the Orchestras Feeding America program for the fourth year.

Now in its 28th season, the Conway Symphony Orchestra brings professional concerts, exciting guest artists and high-quality music to the Central Arkansas community. For more information on concerts and other programs, visit ConwaySymphony.org or call (501) 269-1066.
