BARNES AWARDED FOR BEST LITERARY WORK IN ARKANSAS

Dr. Ken Barnes

Dr. Ken Barnes, history professor, won the Booker Worthen Literary Prize from the Central Arkansas Library System.

His book, “Anti-Catholicism in Arkansas: How Politicians, the Press, the Klan, and Religious Leaders Imagined an Enemy, 1910-1960,” was published last November by the University of Arkansas Press. In April, it received the J.G. Ragsdale Award, given by the Arkansas Historical Association, for best book about Arkansas history.

With a stipend of $2,000, it is one of the state’s most lucrative and prestigious literary prizes.

Barnes was awarded the Worthen prize at a ceremony in October.
