Kinesiology and Physical Education
A Message from the Chair

Dr. Debbie Howell-Creswell
Thank you for your interest in Kinesiology and Physical Education department. I'd like to cover a few highlights before encouraging you to navigate around our pages. After looking over the web site, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me, or any of our faculty by email, mail, or telephone. We are constantly striving to improve our ability to shape the future of our respective fields, and we believe you have a role to play in shaping that future, too.
Our programs serve a variety of students within the university. We offer undergraduate and graduate degrees. Our undergraduate programs are athletic training, P-12 physical education - teacher education and a degree in kinesiology (exercise science) which prepares graduates to serve the public through fitness and wellness programs in commercial, corporate, community, clinical and school-based settings. The graduate degree, Master of Science in Kinesiology is a multi-purpose degree with concentrations in pedagogy, fitness, and sport leadership.
In addition to degree programs we offer a coaching endorsement which prepares students to add a coaching license to their teaching license. The department also contributes to the general education of all students in the university through courses designed to establish a program of activity with primary emphasis on the development of lifetime physical fitness and knowledge and appreciation of movement, games, and sports.
As you review our web pages, I hope you'll get a sense of the breadth of what we have to offer. Perhaps less visible is our commitment to students. Teaching is our priority. Most of our classes are small and students have the opportunity to work closely with faculty in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings. We are well known for the personal touch we provide to our students. All phases of the educational process stress the importance of interaction among students, faculty, and practicing professionals. This philosophy is reflected in our curriculum, in our strong relationships with employers and in our growing alumni network. Our programs are highly respected by employers which will assist you as you enter or advance in the work force. Faculty members serve as academic advisors to students in all programs. We also have two student clubs (Central Arkansas Athletic Training Students Association and Kinesiology and Physical Education Majors Club) that are sponsored by faculty members. Each club provides additional opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, interact with professionals in the field, and to serve the community.
We want you to reach your professional goals. We measure our success in terms of your successes.
