CNSM Featured in UCA Magazine

UCA Magazine’s Fall 2017 issue focuses on science, thus CNSM faculty,  students and alum are featured in several articles.  “Passing the Torch” discusses undergraduate student research in Chemistry and Geography.  “Conway Corporation Center for Sciences” shows off our brand new state of the art science building and Griffin Planetarium.  Drs. Research in STEM Education Seminar

Fish Fry Tailgate, Saturday, 10/14!

Come out this Saturday from 1:00-6:00PM to enjoy a fish fry put on by the UCA chapter of the American Fisheries Society at the CNSM tailgate spot located on Bruce street near the Crafton AlumniPavilion! Cost is $6 per plate that goes to support chapter activities.

CNSM tailgates are a family and kid friendly event. Come on out to help build community!

Homecoming Events 10/23 – 10/28

The College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics invites you to join us for Homecoming Week 2017!

Join us in downtown Conway for The Science of Football at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at King’s Live Music. This is a panel event that seeks to bring experts from varying areas of academia together to discuss the science of football.

On Homecoming Day, we will host an open house of the new Conway Corporation Center for Sciences. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., enjoy h’ors d’oeuvres and mimosas alongside facility tours and shows in the Dr. Edmond E. Griffin Planetarium. RSVP by October 24 to daynab@uca.edu.

The CNSM tailgate begins later that day at 2 p.m. on Bruce Street in front of Buffalo Alumni Hall. Homemade jambalaya will be served before the UCA Bears take on McNeese State Cowboys at 6 p.m.

Jewel Moore Nature Reserve Photography Contest

 

Digital photographs of nature or of humans interacting with nature must be taken in the Jewel Moore Nature Reserve, in the restored creek adjacent to the HPER, in the natural areas behind Lewis Science Center (including Culwell Natural Area and rain garden), or at the Steel Creek field station along the Buffalo River. Photographs of organisms taken from these areas and photographed in the lab may also be submitted (e.g. protists, algae, insects).

Contest is open to all UCA students, faculty, staff and alumni.  Deadline for submission November 1, 2017.

Dean Addison Kicks off Challenge Week 2017

CNSM Dean Stephen Addison kicks off Challenge Week next Monday, 10/2, with this topic “Algorithms: What they are, How we use them, and Why you should know about them” in Doyne Auditorium at 5 pm.  Reception to follow.

The Schedler Honors College Challenge Week theme is  “Brave New Algorithms: How ‘Big Data’ Shapes Our World and runs October 2-6.
