CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will host a joint performance at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, in the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall on the UCA campus.
The performance is free and open to the public. The Wind Ensemble will be conducted by Director of Bands Dr. Ricky Brooks, with Associate Director of Bands Brantley Douglas conducting the Symphonic Band.
“The concert has a wide variety of musical styles for all ages and musical appetites. The audience will hear music with a modern groove, British folk songs, music from broadway and the circus,” Brooks said.
The Symphonic Band will start the concert with “Up” by Michael O’Toole, “Elegy Fanfare, and March” by Roger Nixon, “Rhosymedre” by Vaughn Williams and “Prelude, Siciliano, and Rondo” by Malcolm Arnold.
The Wind Ensemble will then perform “Idaho March” by C. Barnhouse, “Lincolnshire Posy” by Percy Grainger, “Four Dances from West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein arranged by Polster, and “Colors for Trombone” by Bert Appermont.
The ensemble is mostly undergraduate students and includes some graduate students. Nathan Rakow is a graduate conducting student who will conduct “Rhosymedre”.
Daniel Severs, a senior music major and trombonist from Vilonia, won the annual Student Spotlight Concerto competition. The competition gave Severs a monetary award and a solo with the Wind Ensemble. Severs will perform “Colors for Trombone.”
The UCA Wind Ensemble will also perform at the UCA Band Extravaganza concert on Dec. 3.
