The University Chorus will perform the 1985 “Requiem” of British composer John Rutter at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21 in Reynolds Performance Hall. The performance is free and open to the public. In the tradition of Faure and Brahms, Rutter chose to intermingle Latin texts from traditional Catholic liturgy with passages in English from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. The “Requiem” is a work in seven movements that takes approximately 40 minutes to perform.
As they perform Rutter’s work, the choir will take the audience on a journey that will touch both the depths of human anguish and heights of joyful praise, ending with comforting reassurance of eternal light and life.
Instrumentalists, accompanying the choir for the “Requiem,” include Dr. Stephen Feldman on cello, along with an ensemble of student players from the UCA orchestra and symphonic band.
The concert will conclude with a mixed set of joyfully upbeat songs by composers Paul Basler, Rene Clausen, William Dawson, Emma Lou Deimer.
