Fashion designer Korto Momolu will appear on the University of Central Arkansas campus from Sept. 30 to Oct. 11, 2024, as part of the artist-in-residence program.
Momolu’s residency is titled “Sustainable, Empower, Work (S.E.W.) Dope.”
She will hold a public lecture on Oct. 9, at 7 p.m., in the Windgate Center for Fine and Performing Arts Concert Hall. The title of the lecture is “An Evening with Fashion Designer Korto Momolu.”
Momolu was featured on season five of “Project Runway” followed by two seasons of “Project Runway All Stars.” She has also showcased her collections at New York Fashion Week. Her vibrant creations feature bold colors and daring patterns, reflecting her African heritage through traditional prints and a bohemian chic style.
“As a fashion designer, Korto serves as a beautiful example of perseverance and success. Even more exciting for university students is her messaging that exemplifies creativity, sustainability and empowerment. Everyone will enjoy her upbeat and relevant personality while on campus,“ said Crystal Harris, assistant professor of English and co-director of Africana Studies.
During the residency, Momolu will moderate and host a fashion show in collaboration with Conway Fashion Week founded by UCA alumna, Rachel Lovelace. This public event is from 7-10 p.m. on Oct. 11 in the Windgate Center Atrium and Keystone Steps. The fashion show is a ticketed event. Limited tickets are available for the fashion show. UCA students are allowed one free ticket. General public tickets are available to purchase. For more information, please visit Conway Fashion Week ticket information.
A model casting call will be open to the public in the Windgate Center for Fine and Performing Arts Room 167 on Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those interested in modeling are expected to wear a solid black top with leggings or jeans for auditions.
Momolu’s residency activities also include office hours for students, classroom visits and a moderated panel with students.
The artist-in-residence program is funded by the UCA Student Arts Fee, with additional funding through Engage Management. All events are located on the UCA campus unless otherwise specified. All events are free to UCA students and open to the public. No reservations or tickets are required unless otherwise specified.
