University of Central Arkansas recognized outstanding achievements on the part of 87 graduates of the Honors College, 21 departmental undergraduate scholars, 32 members of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges as well as 159 University Honors (no-thesis) graduates and 1,340 Presidential Scholars at the 35th annual Academic Honors Convocation held recently on the campus.In addition, the following individuals received the major university awards: Junior with the Highest Academic Ranking, Nydia Landa, a pre-management major, from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and Sophomore with the Highest Academic Ranking, Kimberly L. Yancey, a mathematics major from Mansfield.
Outstanding College Students honors went to the following students: Business Administration, Nicholas P. Zopolos, an insurance and risk management major from Conway; Education, Rebecca L. Blankenship, a psychology major from Jonesboro; Fine Arts & Communication, Lily N. Kuonen, a studio art: painting major from Sherwood; Health and Behavioral Sciences, Bethany A. Gulley, a psychology major from Little Rock; Liberal Arts, Matthew D. Charton, a history and geography major from Conway; and Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Shannon H. Palmer, a biology major from Searcy.
Outstanding University Students honors went to the following: Melissa A. Abney, a speech-public relations major from Des Arc; Michelle L. Bridges, an English major from Lonoke; Andres Chang, a chemistry major from Guatemala; Aaron M. King, a psychology major from Bradford; Leslie N. Webb, an early childhood education major from Searcy; and Glenn P. Worley, an accounting major from Conway.
Ranking Honor Graduate for the May 6 ceremony is Andres Chang, a chemistry major from Guatemala.
University President Lu Hardin and Associate Provost Samual Buchanan presided at the convocation held at the Reynolds Performance Hall with approximately 1,000 in attendance.
