The University of Central Arkansas School of Nursing recently announced the award of undergraduate and graduate scholarships for the 2018-19 academic year, as well as 2018 excellence awards.
Scholarship recipients are as follows:
Crystal V. Crawford Nursing Scholarship Award
Michelle Detweiler, of Higden, is the 2018-19 recipient of the Crystal V. Crawford Nursing Scholarship Award. This scholarship endowment was established by Chris and Kim Fowler in honor of their daughter, Crystal V. Crawford, for the purpose of providing scholarship aid to nursing students at UCA. Female students who will be a Level III nursing student in the next academic year are eligible for the scholarship. Students who earn a 3.0 GPA during their Level III year and are in good standing in the School of Nursing may reapply for the scholarship.
Clara M. Forsberg Nursing Scholarship
Lauren Trickey, of Judsonia, has been selected as the 2018-19 recipient of the Clara M. Forsberg Nursing Scholarship. This scholarship endowment was established by the estate of Dr. Carl and Mrs. Clara Forsberg. Mrs. Forsberg was a faculty member in the School of Nursing when the program was first established. She was a woman of high professional standards, and she expected her students to exemplify those standards. The scholarship is for a junior or senior nursing student who is enrolled full time in required nursing courses, in good academic stand and who demonstrates high professional standards.
Suzanne Harvey Graduate Nursing Scholarship Award
Tiffany Griffin, of Conway, has been selected as the 2018-19 recipient of the Suzanne Harvey Graduate Nursing Scholarship. This scholarship endowment was established by her husband, Dr. David Harvey, and the family of Mrs. Harvey in her memory. She was a graduate of UCA’s first nurse practitioner class and practiced for a number of years as a nurse practitioner before her death.
Johnelle Hunt Scholarship
Beth McGee, of Flippin, has been selected as the recipient of the Johnelle Hunt Nursing Scholarship for the 2018-19 academic year. This scholarship is for a graduate nursing student, enrolled in the nurse educator track and who serves as part-time clinical faculty member within the UCA Department of Nursing. The recipient must be enrolled in the nurse educator track and in good academic standing.
Betty Martin Nursing Scholarship Award
Lakita Davis, of Camden, has been selected as the 2018-19 recipient of the Betty Martin Nursing Scholarship. This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Betty Martin, who was chair of UCA School of Nursing for a number of years. The scholarship is for a junior or senior nursing student who is enrolled full time in required nursing courses, in good academic standing, and demonstrates high academic and professional standards.
Hawk-McCaslin Nursing Scholarship
Maranda Byrd, of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, has been selected as the recipient of the 2018-19 Hawk-McCaslin Nursing Scholarship. The scholarship is for a graduate nursing student, enrolled in at least six credit hours of required graduate nursing courses, in good academic standing, and who demonstrates high academic and professional standards. This scholarship was established by a very caring nurse in honor of the nurse’s family members.
Excellence award recipients are as follows:
Undergraduate Clinical Excellence Award
The recognition is awarded to a Level III and a Level IV nursing student whom faculty believes demonstrates exceptional clinical performance. Kristin Briggler, of Conway, is the 2018-19 Level IV recipient. Colby Spaeth, of Greenbrier, is the 2018-19 Level III recipient.
Undergraduate Academic Excellence Award
The School of Nursing Undergraduate Academic Excellence Award is presented annually to the senior nursing student with the highest cumulative GPA. Kinsey Bowden, of Conway; Madison Ellis, of North Little Rock, Emily Herzog, of Nashville, Arkansas; and Anna Hughes, of League City, Texas, are the 2018 recipients.
