The University of Central Arkansas will be hosting the UCA Volunteer Fair on Election Day, Tuesday, November 6, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. Faculty, staff, students and the general public are invited to attend the free event.
The fair is being planned and managed by Dr. Amy Amy’s Event Planning class in the Department of Communication. It is an opportunity for people to meet with nonprofit organizations to sign up for volunteer work in the central Arkansas area. The theme of the event is I.V.O.T.E.D., or “I Volunteered On This Election Day.” The class has planned games, prizes and activities to promote the fair and encourage participation with a goal of 800 volunteers donating 5,000 hours of their time.
According to Allie Brown, a student in Dr. Amy’s class, “The Volunteer Fair is important to UCA and to the community because it gives the community and university a chance to give back and show the world that there is more to Conway, Arkansas than colleges and students. The Volunteer Fair gives an opportunity to those who do not know how to get involved and allows them to explore their options and find the best fit for them.”
Dr. Amy noted, “The UCA Volunteer Fair is a perfect example of service learning that is a ‘win’ for everyone involved. Students in the event planning class get real-world experience, UCA students, faculty and staff gain volunteer opportunities, and our community benefits as a result.”
Those interested in more information can follow the fair on Twitter @I.V.O.T.E.D. or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/UcaVolunteerFair.
