The University of Central Arkansas Division of International Engagement is sponsoring a Candlelight Gathering to provide UCA students, faculty, staff and community members an opportunity to offer friendship and support to those impacted by Hurricane Matthew.
The Candlelight Gathering will be held outside Ferguson Chapel, from 5 p.m.-7p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6. The event is open to all. Candles will be provided.
President Tom Courtway will make opening remarks. Executive Vice President and Provost Steve Runge will also relay the support of academic affairs to students and the community.
UCA enrolls 65 international students from the Caribbean, where the hurricane is creating a path of devastation. In addition, many students, faculty, staff and community members have friends and family in coastal areas of the U.S., who are also preparing for this storm.
International Engagement Associate Vice President Jane Ann Williams said the Candlelight Gathering is an open invitation to UCA and local community members to join together in love and friendship to comfort those who have loved ones in the path of this storm.
