The following faculty have earned grant for current programs and projects:Drs. Carolyn Williams, Shoudong Feng and Jeff Whittingham, College of Education, recently received a $5,000 grant for a project titled, ?Minority Teacher Scholars Leadership and Retention Initiative.?
The grant is being funded by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education.
According to the authors, the grant will be used for successful mentoring and leadership development for minority teacher candidates.
Dr. Linda Griffith and Belinda Robertson, Department of Mathematics, recently received a $13,197 grant for a project titled, ?Professional Development Institute Summer Training.?
The grant is being funded by the U.S. Department of Education through the Arkansas Department of Education (Title 2A Improving Teacher Quality) through Wilbur D. Mills Education Service Coop.
The grant will provide science frameworks for 400 participants and cover registration fees for 20 students.
According to the authors, the grant will provide high-quality professional development and materials for the state?s K-16 math and science educators.
Dr. Patrick Desrocheres, Department of Chemistry, recently received a grant for 40 hours of magnetic use time at the National Magnetic Field Laboratory valued at $20,000.
The grant is being funded by the National Science Foundation, Florida State University and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, Fla.
Magnetic measurements were performed to probe the internal structure of molecules first discovered by undergraduate researchers in Desrocheres lab at UCA. ?Knowledge of the internal working of these molecules will improve their application processes like the use of natural gas as an industrial raw material and possibly energy storage for fuel cells,? Desrocheres said.
UCA students will benefit by participating in an ongoing collaboration with a nation research laboratory at which cutting-edge research in magnet use and development is carried out.
Dr. Letha J. Mosley and LaTeasha D. Gaither, Department of Occupational Therapy, recently received grants totaling $3,650 for a project titled, ?Comparative Analysis of Health and Wellness Programming in African American and European American Churches in the Central Arkansas Region: Implications for Community-based Practice in Occupational Therapy.?
The grants are being funded by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education through the State Undergraduate Research Fellowship.
According to the authors, the grant will ?depict the parameters of health and wellness programs in churches in the Central Arkansas region, including the role of occupational therapy practitioners in facilitating and sustaining those programs.
?The long-range benefits include a healthier community through collaborative development of health and wellness programs by local churches and the occupational therapy department.?
Philip Frana and Amanda Doughtery, Honors College, recently received a $1,687 grant for a project titled, ?Gender Styles in Online Academic Communities.?
The grant is being funded by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education through the State Undergraduate Research Fellowship.
Dr. Ginny Adams and Dr. Reid Adams, Department of Biology, recently received a $3,867 grant for a project titled, ?Distribution and Population Status of Spring Cavefish in Missouri.?
The grant is being funded by the Missouri Department of Conservation.
According to the authors, ?We will provide Missouri details on distribution and current status of Spring Cavefish (a state endangered species) in that state. This is the second year of a three-year grant from Missouri.?
