The biggest gift to the University of Central Arkansas in 2003 came from its own employees who brought in nearly $3.3 million in grant money for academics and research, nearly $1 million more than in 2002.
On Wednesday, the 127 faculty and staff who were instrumental in bringing those dollars into the university were honored during a reception. UCA President Lu Hardin, Provost Gabe Esteban and the deans from each academic college were on hand to congratulate the employees on a job well done.
?Thank you from the bottom of my heart because many of these projects would have had to come from the education and general fund, but now we can use that money for other academic projects,? Hardin said.
Administrators received a round of applause after Esteban announced several capital projects on the university?s wish list, including a new business building and renovations of both Main Hall and Mashburn Hall, all of which would benefit academics.
