Courtney Powell and Michael Schoultz have been named recipients of the Robert W. McLauchlin Graduate Scholarship for the fall semester at the University of Central Arkansas. Announcement of their selection came at a recent ceremony held in Wingo Hall on the campus.Powell has been a Speech-Pathology student and graduate assistant at UCA since graduating cum laude with her undergraduate degree from UCA in May 2005.
?I feel very honored to receive a scholarship that is named after a man who was a speech pathologist,? Powell said. ?I?m just so blessed to be the recipient.?
Powell is from Carlisle and is married to Brian Powell. Her son, Layton, was born in 2002.
Schoultz of Vilonia is currently a second year student in the physical therapy doctoral program at UCA after graduating in 2005 with a BS in physical therapy.
?Of course it?s an honor to receive any type of scholarship, but to know that you?ve competed with a lot of people, and you and one other person were chosen is a great bonus,? Schoultz said.
The Robert W. McLauchlin Scholarship is the only exclusively graduate scholarship offered at UCA and is available to student enrolled in nine or more credit hours. The winner is selected based upon academic performance, community involvement, and financial need. A council of graduate faculty and administration selects the winners each year. The scholarship is renewable for a second semester if the student maintains a 3.0 GPA and remains a full time student.
?I?ve worked my whole way through college, and for someone to finally notice and say, ?Hey, keep up the good work?; well, that just makes you feel good,? Schoultz said.
