Table at Luigi’s, the 2010 feature film by the University of Central Arkansas’s Digital Filmmaking program, has been selected for the Bare Bones Film Festival in Muskogee, Okla., named by livability.com as one of the 10 best small film festivals in the country.
Table at Luigi’s will screen at noon on Saturday, April 30.
Table at Luigi’s is a modern-day fairy tale about David, “Chef” to his friends, who creates “living dreams” for people through his cooking. That all changes for Chef the night Emily walks in and he begins to realize that the dreams he’s been creating have locked him in his own dream world.
The film is also nominated for “Bonehead Awards” for Best Romance Picture; Best Student Feature; and Frank Romeo (Chef) for best actor in a feature film. The awards ceremony will be Sunday, May 1.
The film was written and directed by Joe Dull, assistant professor of digital filmmaking, and was shot in one month, July 2009. But the film has been in the works for more than a decade.
According to www.barebonesfilmfestivals.org, the festival is for films made for less than $1million. Luigi’s was made for $4,000.
“We’re tremendously excited to be a part of the Bare Bones Film Festival,” Dull said. “It’s a great credit to our students that they were able to create a film that can stand against films made for more than 200 times our budget.”
The festival will feature narrative and documentary features, short and student films, music videos, animation and live screenplay readings in its competitive program.
According to the website, the Bare Bones festival was created by filmmakers, screenwriters and actors and was created for filmmakers, screenwriters and actors who are involved in independent motion picture projects anywhere in the world.
In 2010, it was named one of the “Top 25 Film Festivals worth the entry fee” by Moviemaker Magazine, and in 2009, it was named one of the top 20 festivals for new and emerging filmmakers.
