Seven University of Central Arkansas graduates have been recognized as an Outstanding University Student. The award is given at the end of the academic year to seniors who have demonstrated exceptional leadership ability; contributed to the campus community and excelled academically.
This year’s recipients are:
*Desiree Paulhamus, of Conway, received her degree in print journalism and a minor in interdisciplinary studies. She served as a UCA Ambassador; a member of the Greek Judicial Board; a member of the Royal Rooters/Bear Den; and a delegate, public relations chair, executive and counselor chairman with the Pan-Hellenic Council. Desiree was a staff writer for the student newspaper, The Echo and served as editor-in-chief during the 2007-08 academic year. She also was the secretary of the Student Publication Board. She is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma, where she served as education director and president. Academic accolades include Presidential Scholar, Dean’s List and Honors College. She is the daughter of Scott and Connie Paulhamus of Bryant.
*Anatoliy Shatkovskyy, of Conway, received his degree in international studies and a minor in French and honors. During his time at UCA, he served as a resident assistant, a UCA delegate for the Model United Nations and held the positions of vice president and president of the Model United Nations. He was involved in the UCA Young Democrats, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society and Baridon Hall Council. His academic honors include Presidential Scholar, Dean’s List and Honors College, where he served as an Honors College teaching assistant. He is the son of Yuriy and Lyubov Shatkovskyy of Ukraine.
*Brian Broussard, of Conway, received a degree in psychology and political science and a minor in interdisciplinary studies and Spanish. He served as a Residence Hall Association representative, a resident assistant, a representative of the Model United Nations, Arkansas Model United Nations newsletter editor, Midwest Model United Nations delegate and head delegate. He was a member of the Psychology Club, Young Democrats, Campus Dialogue and Freudian S.L.I.P.S, a faculty-selected psychology organization. Academic honors include Presidential Scholar, Dean’s List, Honors College and Psi Chi Regional Research Award. Brian also is a member of Psi Chi, the national honor society in Psychology; Pi Sigma Alpha, political science honors society; and National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He is the son of Allan and Susan Broussard of North Little Rock.
*Elizabeth Marie Schiefer, of Fox, Ark., received a degree in chemistry with a minor in honors and mathematics. She was involved in Chi Alpha Student Ministry and the national and UCA chapter of the American Chemical Society. Academic honors include Presidential Scholars, Dean’s List, and Honors College. She is the daughter of Chris and Judy Schiefer of Fox.
*Dean Turbeville, of Conway, received his degree in biology (pre-med) and a minor in interdisciplinary studies. He has served as a UCA Ambassador, a member of the Royal Rooters/Bear Dean, American Medical Student Association, and UCA Honors College Ambassador. Dean’s academic honors include Presidential Scholar, Dean’s List and Honors College. Also, Dean was involved in the UCA Circle K and Honors College Freshmen Mentor. He is the son of Richard and Debbie Turbeville of Nashville, Ark.
*Darrell W. Martin Jr., of Conway, received a degree in ACS Certified Biochemistry and a minor in interdisciplinary studies. While at UCA, Darrell was a member of the Royal Rooters/Bear Dean and the American Chemical Society, where he served as vice president. His academic honors include Presidential Scholar, Dean’s List and Honors College. He is the son of Darrell and Linda Martin of Heber Springs.
*Autumn Bewley, of Jonesboro, Ark., received a degree in biology and a minor in interdisciplinary studies. She was involved in the UCA Optometry Club, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, UCA Humane Society, and New Hall Council and resident assistant advisor. Autumn also helped organize the UCA Undergraduate Conference on Race and Ethnicity in 2009. Academic honors include Presidential Scholar and Honors College. Autumn is the daughter of Gary and Gale Bewley of Jonesboro.
