Anglican Bishop John Rucyahana of Rwanda will visit UCA on Monday, October 12 at 4:00 p.m. in the Snow Fine Arts Recital Hall. Bishop Rucyahana has been instrumental in helping the Rwandan people move forward after the genocide and war that plagued the country in the early 1990’s. In his presentation the Bishop will speak about the current revitalization of his country. He will also touch on some on the dark history and then tie that back to the remarkable strides that are being made today by the people who actually lived that dark history. He will also focus on what it will take for Rwanda to continue the unprecedented climb out of turmoil, bringing in the idea of “borrowed talent” from the West. Bishop Rucyahana feels that “Rwandans do not want to hear how they are broken, they want to know how to put the pieces back together.” He will share about some of the current efforts that are going on (the development of Muhabura University) and the opportunity for students and faculty to come learn in a truly unique environment while they also help “put the pieces back together.” Bishop Rucyahana will issue an invitation/challenge to the audience to find significance in life by plugging into Rwanda.
The event is free and open to the public and the UCA community.
