A pilot program administered by the College of Education’s Reading Success Center is helping parents and their children improve their English and literacy skills.
Dr. Mary Mosley, the director of the center, received a grant from the Faulkner County Literacy Council to obtain electronic materials and programs to assist parents of English Language Learners while their children participate in weekly literacy instruction. The instruction is provided by College of Education graduate student clinicians at the Reading Success Center.

The goals of the program are to promote competence and confidence for parents to enhance their children’s literacy at home and to assist clearer communication with children’s classroom teachers and medical providers, Mosley said.
Reading Success Center officials met with parents after the children’s sessions to discuss the instruction provided each child, answer parents’ question, address concerns, and extend practices. Three families took part in the sessions. Officials hope to expand the program to include more families.
