Letha J. Mosley, Department of Occupational Therapy, Felicia D. Taylor, Department of Health Sciences, and Byron Ross, Department of Speech-Language Pathology, were recently accepted for the Allied Health Center for Excellence in eHealth Promotion Programs for Underserved Populations (Allied Health CEEPs-UP) Summer Institute. The Institute is limited to 20 participants from across the nation each year.

Through a number of informal conversations, Mosley, Taylor, and Ross recognized some similarities in research interests and projects. In an effort to share resources and give the university a more definitive connection with underserved populations in the state, they developed a campus coalition. They have since been working to develop a coalition of campus and community partners who will collaborate on developing faith-based health and wellness programs in the African American Community. The initial campus-community collaboration was through Dr. Taylor?s UCA Health Education-Faith Based Initiative grant. Following participation in the eHealth Summer Institute, the UCA campus and community collaboration will create a Web site titled eHealth: Health-E New Creature, based on the concept of being a new creature. The Web site will offer educational and interactive components designed to facilitate health and wellness.
Each team member will also be a visiting faculty member, as they will be required to share expertise in their respective practice areas. As participants of the Institute, they will learn how to build an eHealth infrastructure in an underserved community, improve computer and health literacy within that population, evaluate health websites using a reliable tool, and incorporate eHealth promotion programs into their practice.
