The following presentations, publications and accomplishments were submitted by UCA faculty and staff: Dr. Bill Bandy, Department of Physical Therapy, recently was featured in a Baltimore Sun article that discussed the timing and other aspects of warm-up stretches. For example, an athlete 25 to 30 years old needs to hold a gentle stretch for at least 30 seconds. “If they’re only holding it for 15 seconds, it’s like they are doing nothing,” Bandy says. ?People older than 60 need to hold a stretch for 60 seconds to have an impact on their flexibility.?
Dr. Wen Wang, Department of Physical Therapy, recently had an article titled, ?ZO-1 Expression and Phosphorylation in Diabetic Nephropathy,? accepted for publication in the journal of Diabetes. The co-authors for this article included Dr. Hernan Rincon-Choles, et al, at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Dr. James Murray, Department of Biology, has recently given two invited talks and one poster presentation. At the American Academy for the Advancement of Science Symposium: Anti-Evolutionism in America: What’s Ahead?, last month in St. Louis he presented ?Is Neuroscience the Next Target??
At the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology Symposium: Recent Developments in Neurobiology, in January at Orlando, he presented ?Advances in the neural bases of orientation & navigation.?
At the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology meeting also in Orlando, he gave a poster presentation titled ?Neuronal control of mucociliary interactions in Tritonia diomedea.?
Dr. Jim Guinee, Department of Counseling, conducted a workshop on “Navigating your way through grief” and made a presentation “For dad’s only: A childbirth class for men” at the 8th annual conference of Arkansas Parent Educators Network.
Dr. Barbara Clancy, Department of Biology, took six biology and two math students to the INBRE Student Undergraduate Research Conference in Fayetteville, Feb. 24-25. They made the following poster presentations:
