The University of Central Arkansas Police Department recently opened an Outreach Center to host educational training and programming for the UCA community.
The next training event is a self-defense class for personnel in the Office of Human Resources at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, April 7.
The facility will be used for in-service training for UCAPD personnel. A major use of the building will be training for faculty, staff and students, such as the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training.
“Drug and alcohol awareness, theft prevention or any classes that we provide for the UCA community, we are going to do over there,” said Officer Michael Hopper, UCAPD public relations and information officer. “It’s a dedicated space so that we can do community classes.”
The 600-square-foot facility is located on the north side of campus at 2125 College Ave, Suite 3. The location is within a few hundred feet of five sorority houses and a Greek complex, all of which opened in fall 2015.
“It’s a centralized location,” Hopper said. “It’s a good spot for ease of access for when we do classes for sororities and fraternities.”
