CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Department of Music will host an April 12 concert featuring the students of Dr. Blake Tyson and the Percussion Ensemble.
The 7:30 p.m. concert in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall is free and open to the public.
The UCA percussionists will make music using traditional and non-traditional instruments, including tuned gongs from Thailand, brake drums from old cars, metal pipes, tin cans, prayer bowls from Japan, elephant bells from India and buckets of water.
The program will include “Palace of Nine Perfections” by Eric Ewazen; “Parallax” by James Romig; “Alma No Tem Cor” by Andre Abujamra; “Doomsday Machine” by Michael Burritt and “Used Car Salesman” by Michael Daughtery.
UCA’s Percussion Ensemble includes about 20 music majors who are studying music education, composition and performance, Tyson said.
“I’m lucky to work with so many great students,” he said. “UCA Percussion Ensemble concerts are always exciting for me because I get to see and hear the amazing performances they’ve worked so hard to create.”
Performers include Rachel Anderson, Gunnar Bartlett, Marquize Clark, Judson Dickey, Harry Glaeser, Jared Hacket, Jonathan Hufford, Victoria Kelsey, Jarrod Light, Brandon Marlin, Bradlee Martin, Cade Mayes, Noah Mellick, Braeden Miller, Brandon Short, Scott Strickland, Stephen Timperley and Derek Weiand.
