Orientation staff chosen

The Office of Orientation at the University of Central Arkansas recently announced its 2014 Student Orientation Staff Leadership Team.

These volunteers will lead the 72 member-Student Orientation Staff (SOS), which is responsible for UCA’s Summer Orientation and Academic Registration (SOAR) program and for Welcome Week activities in August. By the time the Fall 2014 semester begins, each of these students will have logged 200 hours of volunteer service to the university.

“I am very excited about the leadership team that has been selected for SOS 2014. These individuals have shown they are committed to excellence in and out of the classroom through their academic achievements and service to the university,” Colin Stanton, coordinator of New Student Programs, Department of Orientation.

Selected as student co-directors were Sydney Crafton and Josh Dabney, both seniors. Crafton is an early childhood/special education major from North Little Rock and Dabney is a biology/pre-medicine major from Marked Tree, Ark.

Seniors selected as SOS team leaders were Anna Acre, Ashley Hickman, Shun Ingram, and Hannah Kent; juniors, Bill Hasik and Maddi Mosler.

Acre, from Greenbrier, is a nutrition/dietetics major. Hickman is a biology/pre-medicine major from Hot Springs. Ingram is a Palestine, Ark. native and is majoring in health sciences/pre-physical therapy. Kent is a psychology major from Rogers. Paragould native Hasik is a middle level education major. Mosler, from North Little Rock, is an early childhood/special education major.

The remainder of the 72-member staff was selected in March through an interview process. A record number 239 students applied for the all-volunteer staff this year.
