In collaboration with the Mexican Consulate in Little Rock, the University of Central Arkansas’ Department of Art and the International Engagement Office will host an art reception Friday, Oct. 19 from 5-7 p.m. at UCA Downtown in Conway. Mauricio Silerio’s art exhibit, “Los Demonios de mi Tierra (Demons of this Land),” will be on display.
The exhibition will feature a series of 20 photographs inspired by traditional Mexican legends and culture, such as characters, games, crafts and artists. The images have been digitally captured underwater and manipulated via computer. The aim of this exhibition is to explore universal concepts that can be understood by any audience, even those who do not share Mexican origin or have an in-depth knowledge of the culture.
Silerio, born in Queretaro, Mexico, has studied courses in painting, drawing, engraving, writing and photography in institutes of the state of Guanajuato and Romania. He has displayed more than 50 exhibitions in Mexico, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Serbia, Cuba, the United States and Costa Rica, as well as more than 45 collective exhibitions in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Italy, Spain, Holland, Canada, Cuba, Malaysia and Romania.
Silerio’s art will be available for viewing in the UCA Downtown gallery until Nov. 16. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from noon-5 p.m., unless closed for private events. The public is welcome to attend the reception; refreshments will be served.
