Two journalism students receive CLAWS awards at December board meeting

Mia Waddell and Madison Ogle were recognized as Bear CLAWS recipients at the University of Central Arkansas Board of Trustees December meeting.

CLAWS, an acronym for Celebrating the Lofty Achievements of our Wonderful Students, is awarded to one or more exceptional students or recognized student organizations during regularly scheduled board meetings. 

Waddell is a senior journalism major from North Little Rock. She is editor-in-chief of UCA’s student-run newspaper, The Echo. She has interned for The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and has earned awards for journalist excellence, including the 2023 Reporter of the Year from the Arkansas College Media Association. 

 Madison Ogle is a senior journalism major from Carlisle. She has interned for Arkansas Business Publishing. She has served as photographer, journalist, sports editor and many other roles for The Echo. She is a contributor and student intern for UCA’s Department of Marketing and Communications. She has won many awards for journalistic excellence, news writing, and photography, having recently earned 2023 the award for Photographer of the Year from the Arkansas College Media Association.
