CONWAY — UCA’s three jazz ensembles will perform at the University of Central Arkansas’s Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall on Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
The UCA Dixieland Band, led by Professor of Saxophone Jackie Lamar, will start the night off with traditional New Orleans tunes such as “Royal Garden Blues,” “Basin Street Blues,” and “Way Down Yonder in New Orleans.”
Lamar said the ensemble had always participated in the Mardi Gras season and that this year would be no different. In addition to the Feb. 17 concert, the UCA Dixieland Band will perform in UCA’s Christian Cafeteria during lunch hours.
Following the performance at the Snow Fine Arts Center, Associate Professor of Tuba and Euphonium Gail Robertson will conduct Jazz Ensemble II in a variety of jazz tunes ranging from Billy Holiday, Quincy Jones, Johnny Smith and Gordon Goodwin. Larry Jones, associate professor of trumpet, will then lead Jazz Ensemble I in several pieces primarily focused on the works of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Benny Carter.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Lamar at (501) 450-5759 or jackiel@uca.edu.
