Art Gillaspy, chair of the Department of Psychology and Counseling at the University of Central Arkansas, has been elected to serve on the American Psychological Association Council of Representatives.

Gillaspy will serve as Arkansas’ representative during his three-year term, which will begin Jan. 1, 2021.

“I am humbled to be chosen to work on behalf of Arkansas psychologists in these challenging times,” Gillaspy said.

The Council of Representatives is the legislative body of APA and has full power and authority over the affairs and funds of the association within the limitations set by the certificate of incorporation and the Bylaws, including the power to review, upon its own initiative, the actions of any board, committee, division or affiliated organization.

The council is composed of representatives of divisions, representatives of state, provincial and territorial psychological associations and the members of the Board of Directors.
