The University of Central Arkansas raised $36,059.80 from 1,276 donors during its second annual UCA Day of Giving campaign on Thursday, March 17.
The goal was to raise $11,754 to honor each of the 11,754 students enrolled at UCA. The funds will support emergency student scholarships.
“We all appreciate the generous contributions from our alumni, faculty, staff, parents and friends,” said UCA President Tom Courtway. “The Day of Giving was a success, and we are especially pleased that many students contributed to the emergency scholarship fund to benefit their fellow students. We are thrilled we were able to exceed last year’s total.”
UCA Foundation emergency student scholarships are one-time scholarships given to students who, without assistance, find themselves in unforeseen dire financial straits and cannot continue their education.
“We are very grateful to UCA Board of Trustees Member Bunny Adcock and his wife, Carol, UCA Foundation Board members Gary D. Cooper and his wife, Monica, and Dr. Terry Fiddler and his wife, Dr. Joyce Fiddler and the Student Government Association, who were challenge donors for the Day of Giving,” Haley Fowler, director of annual giving, said.
The one-day, 24-hour event raised $23,559.80, unlocking the matching gifts from the challenge donors and ending the day with a grand total of $36,059.80.
“We are overjoyed that we exceeded our goal. Throughout the day, we kept our alumni, friends and the UCA community updated through email, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter,” Fowler said. “It is so exciting to see how alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends can all come together and make a huge impact in 24-hours.”
