The University of Central Arkansas Concert Choir placed second overall in the 8th International Choir Competition at Riva del Garda, Italy. A total of 63 choirs participated in the competition.
Forty-six UCA students accompanied by John Erwin, director of choral activities, performed in the competition yesterday. UCA was the only representative from the U.S.
The group received gold medals in two categories of the competition (category A1, mixed choir with compulsory piece; and category S, sacred music) and was 0.4 of a point shy of being the overall winner in the A1 category, which was earned by a semi-professional Russian choir.
The UCA choir was so close to the Russian choir in the A1 category, that the university’s choir was invited to perform with category winners in the final concert.
The UCA concert choir will perform at the UCA Snow Fine Arts Center at 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 19. The performance is free and open to the public.
