CONWAY — The Arkansas Saxophone Quartet will perform at 3 p.m. Nov. 20 in the University of Central Arkansas’s Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.
This will be a lecture-recital presentation on the history of the Saxophone Quartet titled “In The Beginning… The Saxophone Quartet.” The lecture recital, which will use lecture, PowerPoint and musical examples, is free and open to the public.
The quartet is equally adept at all styles of chamber music, ranging from transcriptions to avant-garde contemporary music.
“We will present this concert to inform UCA students about the history of the Saxophone Quartet,” said Dr. Jackie Lamar, professor of saxophone at UCA and a member of the quartet.
The Arkansas Saxophone Quartet was formed in the fall of 2007. The members, all of whom have extensive performing experience, include Lamar on baritone saxophone; Andy Wen on soprano saxophone; Caroline Taylor on alto saxophone and Brent Bristow on tenor saxophone. They are the saxophone professors at UCA, University of Arkansas Little Rock, Ouachita Baptist University and Arkansas State University-Beebe, respectively.
The quartet has performed at the North American Saxophone Alliance Conferences in Columbia, S.C. and Columbia, Mo; Southern Arkansas University, UALR, UCA, Ouachita Baptist, ASU-Beebe and the International Conference of the Arts and Humanities in Honolulu. Hawaii.
