“I think love is just the most important thing…” So says Lola in Douglas Moore’s opera Gallantry! This Valentine’s Day, rather than dinner and a movie, try dinner and an opera!
This weekend UCA Opera will be presenting two one-act comic operas: “The Audition” and “Gallantry.” They will be performed this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14 and 15, at 7:30 PM in the Windgate Center for Fine and Performing Arts on the UCA campus. They’re very funny shows, and I’ll actually be singing a role in Gallantry!
The Audition tells the story of several sopranos who are all auditioning to be included in the opera workshop even though there is only one opening for a soprano. Will any of them be accepted into the workshop? Gallantry takes the audience back to the soap opera genre of the 1950’s when commercials were performed live on set. The great surgeon Dr. Gregg, having professed his love to the nurse Lola, discovers that she is already engaged to Donald Hopewell. Lola discovers that Donald is the patient being prepped for surgery under the knife of Dr. Gregg. Will Dr. Gregg win the heart of Lola, or will Donald survive the surgery so that he and Lola can be married? Tune in and find out!
Tickets are on sale now – $10 for adults, $5 for students. Admission is free for UCA faculty, staff, and students!!
