UCA Public Appearances presents MALEVO at Reynolds Performance Hall on Thursday, October 3, at 7:00 pm.
Known as the “South American Sensation” this thrilling all-male group, specialized in Malambo, (a traditional Argentine folk dance set to the beat of the bombo legüero drum) present a show of pure energy and rhythm, merging the Malambo to a modern, transgressive and avant-garde vision while staying true to the cultural foundations of the traditional gaucho artform. Set to a pulsating rhythm of drums, the choreographies combine the use of boleadoras- a leather and stone hunting tool used by Gauchos-, with fast leg movements, energetic zapateados (stomping), and quick cepillados (“brushing”/”scrubbing”) that awakens the senses and leaves the adrenaline running high.
MALEVO shot to fame in 2016 when their act was showcased on Season 11 of “America’s Got Talent” where they continued to the semi-finalists round. Since then, they have had numerous successes including performances in Las Vegas, New York, Dubai, Paris, Cairo, St Petersburg and Montreal as well as special performances with Latin pop-star Ricky Martin, Cirque du Soleil, and a year-long performance season at Universal Studios Osaka, Japan.
With its passionate drumming, fiery theatrics and explosive dance, audiences will see why Malevo has been named as an official Cultural Ambassador to the National Identity of Argentina.
Current and retired UCA Faculty and Staff may each receive two FREE tickets to three of the Public Appearances performances in the 2024-25 season.
