The Department of Physics, Astronomy, and Engineering and the College of Science and Engineering hosted an IEEE Arkansas Section meeting on Saturday, September 21, 2024. The meeting was organized by Dr. William Slaton, Coordinator of the Engineering Physics BS program. There were over 60 attendees, with students and faculty from 5 universities and a number of Arkansas industries in attendance.
The Keynote speaker was Dr. Jesse Butler from the UCA Department of Philosophy and Religion. Dr. Butler led a discussion of the ethics of artificial intelligence. Participants who are Professional Engineers were able to earn 1 hour of professional development credit during this presentation. There were also presentations from industry. The working lunch provided students with the opportunity for feedback on their resumes from industry attendees. The meeting concluded with a Spectrum Analysis ‘Fox Hunt.’ Students used handheld RF spectrum analyzers to ‘hunt’ down and locate a number of RF transmitters that were hidden around campus.
This is the first meeting of the Arkansas Section since before 2019. The meeting was sponsored by Gentry Professional Services, FutureFuel Corporation, Keysight, TestEquity, and LSI.
